It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: "We have an unexpected baby boy; do you want him?" They said: "Of course." My biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would someday go to college.

And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents' savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn't see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes that didn't interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting.

It wasn't all romantic. I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5 cent; deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example:

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn't have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, its likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.

Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

My second story is about love and loss.

I was lucky — I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a billion company with over 4000 employees. We had just released our finest creation — the Macintosh — a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating.

I really didn't know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down - that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me — I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over.

I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.

During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the worlds first computer animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple's current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together.

I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it.

Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.

My third story is about death.

第三个故事关于死亡。

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

在17岁的时候,我读过一句格言,好像是:“如果你把每一天都当成你生命里的最后一天,你将在某一天发现原来一切皆在掌握之中。” (笑声)这句话从我读到之日起,就对我产生了深远的影响。在过去的33年里,我每天早晨都对着镜子问自己:“如果今天是我生命中的末日,我还愿意做我今天本来应该做的事情吗?”当一连好多天答案都否定的时候,我就知道做出改变的时候到了。

Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn't even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor's code for prepare to die. It means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you'd have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes.

I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck anendoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumor. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I'm fine now.

This was the closest I've been to facing death, and I hope its the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept:

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960's, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions.

Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish." It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

同学之间的矛盾都是生活小事而起。不是生死之仇,发生矛盾时我们应多做自我批评,得理也须饶人,忍一忍风平浪静,退一步海阔天空,良言一句三冬暖,恶语一句六月寒,一声对不起、请原谅、一笑泯恩仇。

打架斗殴是社会流氓用来处理矛盾的方式方法,与我们文明的校园、文明的学生是格格不入的,打架斗殴不但不能使矛盾得到解决,反而使矛盾进一步恶化,学生打架斗殴,将严重影响学校声誉,危及同学安全,侵犯他人人身权力,因而是学校纪律明令禁止的行为,对有关责任者,学校必须给予严厉处分。

本期中,我们学校大部分同学在处理同学关系上做得很好。但也发生了几起比较严重的违纪事件,在本次升旗仪式结束后将要宣布对部分同学的处分决定,希全体同学引以为戒。

同学们,互相尊重,善待同学就是善待自己。要让别人尊重你,你首先要尊重别人。让我们互相帮助,互相关心,遵守学校一切规章制度,共创和谐的一中。

波罗的海岸边有个叫塔林的城市,很多人家里都有古老的火炉和高高的烟囱,清理烟囱十分困难,也十分危险,而且身上总会落满烟尘。每当人们见到从事这项工作的工人时,总要虔诚地用手摸摸他们工作服上的烟灰,因为他们认为这会给自己带来幸福。节假日,当地的男士还会戴上十分显眼的高筒礼帽,象征着高高的烟囱,此时的他们,觉得自己是世界上最幸福、最光荣的人。

是的,劳动会使人变得美不胜收!这道理正如冈察尔的名著《向日葵》:一位雕塑家受人之托,为一位少女塑半身像,可惜这位种向日葵的高产能手偏偏貌不惊人,丝毫激发不起雕塑家的任何灵感,使他不得不回绝了这项任务。可是,有一天,当雕塑家偶尔在地里看到这位正在劳动的少女时,他的心被深深震撼了——那少女劳动的热情与娴熟的技术,居然闪烁着迷人而美丽的光彩!于是,雕塑家的灵感顿时被激发出来,并一举完成了《向日葵少女》的雕塑像。你看,由于奋发的劳动,貌不惊人的少女突然变成了艺术家面前一道最亮丽的风景线!

我们记得:4月14日是让国人痛心的一天。玉树7.1级地震,能量相当于400颗广岛原子弹,把多阳光下鲜活的生命永远的带入了黑暗的世界。灾难超越了地域与时空,灾难是我们共同的痛。然而值得我们欣慰的是,就在灾难发生不久,解放军武警部队以及许多民间救援组织迅速的赶往灾区,在机械还没运达的情况下,是他们用自己的双手,把一个个埋在废墟里的同胞给挖了出来。电视荧屏上,我看到参加救援的解放军武警战士们一个个双手粗糙,皲裂流血,但是你能不说这才是世界上最美的手吗?

我们虽然不能像解放军武警战士那样去灾区用自己的双手救人,但我们可以献出爱心,一衣一物皆心意,一元一分总关情。救人的手是美的,捐款捐物的手是美的。其实在平时的学习生活中,我们都可以用自己的双手创造美。早晨起床后,你把自己的被子叠好,物品摆放整齐,教室里你把桌面清理干净,值日的时候,你把教室每个角落打扫得一干二净,在校园里活动时,顺手捡起地上的纸屑这都是在创造美。当大家在整洁、一尘不染的教室中学习时,我们应该想起是这些同学无私的劳动,为我们创造了这么美的环境。正是有了同学们的劳动,我们的校园才会保持整洁的外观,美丽的容颜!我们才会那么舒心愉快的学习生活。

从古至今,劳动不仅创造了物质财富,精神财富,也推动了文明的发展。李时珍编写《本草纲目》,司马迁编写《史记》,司马光编纂《资治通鉴》,他们以自己长期的劳动换来了中华民族宝贵的精神财富。中国古代的四大发明——火药,指南针,印刷术,造纸,在现代应用于各行各业,促进了经济发展。但这一切都来源于劳动,劳动是光荣的,崇高的,是中华民族的传统美德。

作为学生,繁重的学习任务许多同学忘记了劳动,也有的同学认为劳动无用,只会累坏了身体。可是,要明白,劳动能培养一个人吃苦耐劳的精神和坚定的意志。我们终究要走向社会,无论是显赫还是平庸,我们都要用劳动,用双手去服务,造福社会。

高尔基说过:“我们世界上最美好的东西都是由劳动,由人聪明的手创造出来的,只有人的劳动才是神圣的。”所以劳动是可贵的,受人尊敬的。

我是菜王小学选手张诗卓,很高兴有这样一个机会让我站在这里,今天我演讲的题目是《做个合格的小公民》。

我们都拥有着中华人民共和国国籍,都是这个社会的小公民,作为小学生的我们是祖国的未来和希望,是社会主义事业的接班人,遵纪守法,是我们每个人的义务。

我们是在法制社会成长起来的,法律是社会安定的保障。那么,我们的法律知识如何呢?我们又如何靠法律保障自己的权益呢?所以首先要知法、懂法才可以守法,做法制社会里的文明小公民。

从我们懂事开始,就开始了解各种事物的规章制度,并逐渐了解国家的法律法规,加强道德约束。岳飞曾经说过:“莫等闲,白了少年头,空悲切。”这是对我们这些阳光少年的督促:一定要珍惜自己的青春和生命。只可惜现在很多的少年罪犯,他们心中没有道德标准,受到不良环境或者事物的影响,漠视法律,犯了罪必定受到法律的制裁!他们的人生才开始短短十几年,还有漫漫路途,还要享受父母亲人对你的关爱,老师对你赞许的目光,只可惜,一切都荒废了。

俗话说:“无规矩,不成方圆。”我们生活中处处都存在着规矩。比如:教室的桌椅板凳,不可以踩踏损坏;公共设施,不能随意破坏;不能打架斗殴;不能违反交通规则??平时在我们周围,还是有很多不守规矩的人,比如:升国旗时,同学们本应该乖乖站好敬队礼,可是有些同学嬉皮笑脸,无所事事,好像国旗和他们一点关系也没有;还有些同学像小麻雀一样叽叽喳喳说个不停,他们哪有一点敬仰祖国的意识?爱国守法,就是要从小做起,从身边做起!

所以从小培养法律意识,养成学法、知法、守法、用法、护法的良好习惯,让法律永存心中,做一个合格的小公民,使我们的社会更加和谐。

今天,我国旗下讲话的题目是《热爱劳动是一种美德》。

同学们,今年的五一假期刚刚过去。提起“五一”,不知大家首先想到的是“五一假期”还是“五一劳动节”。这里我要说,劳动教育是人生必修课,良好的劳动习惯对于我们少年儿童的成长具有非常重要的意义。

首先,如果一个孩子,如果不爱劳动,自然就缺乏劳动的体验。说实话,同学们之中谁能真正理解和感受到“汗滴禾下土”“粒粒皆辛苦”的涵义?你们能体会到爸爸妈妈赚钱的不容易吗?要知道我们每天吃的、穿的、用的都是爸爸和妈妈用劳动换来的呀!

其次,劳动的过程也是实践的过程。学习的主要目的是为了应用和创造。如果我们没有好的劳动习惯,我们学到的知识就难以运用到生活中去。更谈不上应用和创造了。

1、劳动对于培养每个人的健康人格也具有很重要的作用。

2、儿童劳动时间越长,独立性越强。

3、儿童从事劳动的时间越长,越有利于形成勤劳节俭的好品德。我们从小干家务,可以培养我们吃苦耐劳、珍惜劳动成果、珍重家庭亲情、尊重他人等品质,我们长大以后自然比那些“衣来伸手、饭来张口”的孩子更有出息。

我们要热爱劳动,就需要把劳动变成一种习惯,如果养成了这种好习惯,劳动就成了一个愉快而自然的过程。我国著名相声演员冯巩,小时候家里很穷,但他非常懂事,经常帮助母亲料理家务,冬天顶着凛冽的寒风出去捡煤核儿,逆境的磨炼造就了他自强不息,矢志不移的性格。

劳动可以造就一个人,不爱劳动则难成人。经过老师们的了解与调查,不少同学经常在家帮助父母干家务,做一些象洗衣服、刷碗、摘菜、买东西、打扫卫生、整理房间等一些这些力所能及的事情。但是,也不排除有些同学吃饭用叫、吃完撂下碗筷抹嘴就走现象,不排除晚上让父母铺床,早晨让父母叠被现象,不排除父母偶尔支使点活、马上小嘴撅起老高现象。同学们,上帝为我们创造大脑,是要我们靠自己的本事生存;上帝赋予我们双手,是要我们靠自己的双手劳动。劳动增长见识,劳动是快乐的。我们要时刻牢记胡锦涛爷爷的教导,“以辛勤劳动为荣、以好逸恶劳为耻”;我们要持之以恒,真正从内心把劳动当做自己生活中必须要做的一件事情来看待。

最后,我希望孩子们尊重每一个劳动的人。劳动最光荣,劳动的人最美。无论是白领还是农民工,无论是科学家还是清洁工,他们都是光荣的劳动者,都应该得到我们的尊重。

相信,只要大家愿意去做,一定能从劳动中获得许多快乐,同时也获得许多做人的道理。请同学们记住:热爱劳动是一种美德。让我们都来热爱劳动,热爱生活吧!

可是在平时生活中我们不难发现,同学们参加劳动时怕这怕那,有的同学可以说是根本不爱劳动。据调查,我们现在的学生,爱劳动、有较好劳动习惯的约占1/3,另外的2/3是不爱劳动或不太爱劳动的。他们懒得铺床叠被,懒得洗袜子、洗衣服,懒得收拾教室、收拾桌子,甚至于懒得洗脸、洗脚,连喝水也懒得自己倒,在家里的一切都由父母来做。可见,我们的同学参加的劳动实在是太少了。

作为高中生,我们要从小就要树立正确的劳动意识,认识到劳动最光荣,不爱劳动的人将会一事无成。从小就要培养劳动感情,养成劳动习惯,珍惜劳动成果,做一些力所能及的家务活,同时也要积极参加社会实践活动。我们要牢记自己的学习使命,培养高尚的情操,掌握丰富的知识,学会更多的技能,为将来成为一名优秀的劳动者打下坚实的基础。同学们,从今天开始,从现在
